For the past two decades I’ve sat at the intersection of Fortune 100 business, government, politics, civics, media, health care, public safety, academia, philanthropy and non-governmental organizations. It takes a lot of institutional energy to build healthy, vibrant and prosperous communities and I have spent my years weaving these players together with that goal in mind.
Welcome to the world of civic design!

(She wants to talk to you because I said she should do so).Her e-mail is jhoskens@cunningham.com and phone is 612-617-2316.

Nate,
Your views much resonate with efforts of mine related to constructive civic development. You might be interested in DynamicShift, an initiative I founded with numerous cross-partican political leaders and citizens in MN.
Here is the blog: http://dynamicshift.org.
All best in your work here and elsewhere. Perhaps our paths will cross at some point as we each work whatever angles we can to get to common ground common spaces and co-productive places.

Andrea,
We are definitely tilling the same field! Thanks so much for the link. I’ll certainly keep you in mind as I construct things. It could be cool to collaborate on broadcasting some of the great things happening in our community.
Nate,
I’ve been pitching your TEDTalk here there and everywhere. Excellent!
Your points on intrinsic motivation, fun and play relates to Paha Sapa: Play it Forward initiative and others I’m involved in. I shared a flavor of it at DemocracyU forum:

Perhaps now is a good time to collaborate our energies.

I just came across some of your videos on YouTube, which I truly appreciated. Given where you seem to be coming from, I think you might be interested in some of the “civic software” tools I’ve been developing. If you’re interested in reaching back, please have a look at http://flavors.me/flywheel .
Thanks so much for the link Craig. I’ll not only check the tool out but I’ve got to say that I really enjoyed reading your posts….especially your thoughts on gatekeepers past and present. Nice thoughts!
Nate,
Very excited to have found your website and initiatives- look forward to hearing more. I completely agree with everything here– was trying to remember words I had used in a cover letter for a non-profit (Taproot) that get to a similar idea: basically, that we ALL have a shared responsibility and stake in our communities. The possibilities to shape a better future through increased relationships and partnerships between government, academic institutions, businesses, individuals, etc. are truly endless. It’s likely the inner economist in me as well- but to me, this screams efficiency! I truly believe not only would individuals and societies have better social, environmental and otherwise outcomes- I actually think businesses would be benefit tremendously (and not just from a “more people to buy, so I sell more services/goods/products”) standpoint…I think it fosters innovation. There are so many opportunities for every entity/person within our society to work together, and leverage each other’s experience, knowledge, products and services to ultimately, benefit one another. We need to inject a much needed dose of creativity and flexibility into our current system and work towards a more connected and collective society.
Thank you Alaina. I appreciate your note greatly. Truly!
Nate,
I was encouraged by your TED talk and your Website. We have some tools that could help with your vision. Here is a short video that gives you some flavor of the ways we help communities collaborate much more efficiently and effectively. This recording (best viewed in full-screen mode) was actually my practice session for a live presentation when we were finalists (working with Hunterdon County, NJ) for a RWJF grant on community collaboration to improve health (which was awarded to Hunterdon—and is going very well). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBi8-2usnu8
