WHEN THE SILVER TSUNAMI HITS, IT’S YOUR MINDSET THAT WILL PRESERVE YOUR LIFE(STYLE)

The “Silver Tsunami” is on its way and ready to wipe out our current state of affairs. If you don’t know what that term means, you soon will. It’s the coined name of the swift tide of baby boomers that are racing into their senior years. The numbers are soon to be astronomical. This piece in MinnPost reports that by 2030, one in five Americans (around 72 million people) will be what we consider “elderly.”

And along with this demographic age shift rides an equally large mind shift.  These oldsters aren’t interested in aging like their parents did.  With greater expectations of living longer, more actively and in better health, boomers are rejecting the designs of past decades in increasingly large numbers.  They don’t indend to be warehoused in nursing homes like their parents were.  (more…)

URBAN CRIME ON THE DECLINE

According to this article in The Atlantic, crime in America’s urban areas has dropped to the lowest it’s been in 40 years. My initial thought is that in an economy that’s hurting as much as ours, crime and violence would skyrocket. So why is it that now, of all times, crime rate is so low? I personally think it’s the culmination of proactive, forward thinkers and the efforts of urban communities. (more…)
